OPPORTUNITY

As generative AI began reaching a wider audience, much of the available guidance was either highly technical or focused on broad productivity claims. I saw an opportunity to explain AI through a familiar, hands-on activity: homebrewing.

Homebrewing provided a natural learning environment because it combines creativity, science, iteration, documentation, and personal preference. The project explored how AI could help people develop recipes, understand ingredients, troubleshoot problems, and experiment more confidently.

Role

I created the Homebrewing.ai concept, brand, content strategy, and website experience. I researched and wrote more than 40 articles covering AI fundamentals, prompt design, recipe development, brewing experimentation, and responsible use. I also wrote the first major magazine article focused on AI and homebrewing titled "Artificial or Intelligent?", published by Brew Your Own magazine.

Beyond content creation, I managed paid advertising, search engine optimization, audience growth, and performance analysis. The project gave me hands-on experience with digital marketing, keyword strategy, campaign testing, traffic acquisition, and understanding how content reaches and engages a niche audience.

APPROACH

I treated Homebrewing.ai as both a learning platform and a small digital publishing experiment. I organized content around practical tasks, optimized articles for search, tested paid campaigns, monitored audience behavior, and refined topics and messaging based on what generated interest. This helped me learn not only how to create useful educational content, but also how to position, promote, and grow it.

LESSONS LEARNED

Homebrewing.ai reinforced that strong content is only one part of building a successful digital experience. People also need to be able to discover it. Through SEO work and paid advertising, I learned how search intent, positioning, headlines, audience targeting, and distribution influence whether useful content actually reaches the right people.

The project also showed me how learning design, content strategy, product thinking, and marketing work together. Creating the material was important, but understanding how audiences found it, responded to it, and moved through the experience was equally valuable.
